Oceania & South Pacific Championships

4th – 6th March 2009 Apia (Samoa)

For Senior & Junior

The Samoa Wrestling Association wishes to re-confirm its bid to host the Oceania & South Pacific Championships (Junior & Senior) for the year 2009.  We have already sent a  letter that was handed to all members during the meeting at the recent Oceania Championships in Canberra this year.  Further, we are trying to bring also the Commonwealth Championships, so as to have 3 major tournaments in one.

Samoa has recently hosted the South Pacific Games 2007, and it was a great success for the sport of wrestling in the region.  We have a newly built gymnasium for wrestling & Judo, this was also the gym where we held wrestling for the South Pacific Games, it can seat 2000 people.  We will have 3 Olympic size mats, 2 for the warm-up and the main competition mat.

Samoa has not hosted an Oceania Championships since 1992, when we had the Oceania & Olympic qualifying Tournament here in Apia Samoa.  We are ready for the Oceania & South Pacific Championships Senior/Junior 2009.  We will be awarding gold medals for each Tournament (Oceania, South Pacific & maybe the Commonwealth)

I urge all Oceania Wrestling Members, to please consider that our sport must be developed further within the region.  By giving different countries from different parts of our region the opportunity to host the Oceania Championships, this will certainly help promote the sport in this country and this side of the Oceania region.

Samoa is a warm beautiful paradise.  We hope we will be given the opportunity to host you Samoan style. We wish our Oceania wrestling family every success for the year 2008, especially some who will be competing at the Olympic Games Beijing this year. Look forward to seeing you all in Samoa next year.
